WebWe present a parallel generational-copying garbage collector im-plemented for the Glasgow Haskell Compiler. We use a block-structured memory allocator, which provides a natural granularity for dividing the work of GC between many threads, leading to a simple yet effective method for parallelising copying GC. The re- WebGHC has an excellent garbage collector and functional languages are no worse at garbage collection than other languages. However, Java or .NET's GCs are tuned for those languages, and not to the allocation patterns of something like Haskell, so GC performance of a Haskell program on those platforms may suffer.
